Toronto, ON – June 9, 2026 – During the sold-out Medventions Toronto Innovation Day, Dr. Ahmed Nasef, Co-founder and Co-Director of Medventions, announced the return of the Medventions Lecture Series and Micro-Certificate Program this fall. These educational offerings are designed to expand access to medtech knowledge and skills across Canada. Both programs will begin in Fall 2026 and are open to students, recent graduates, clinicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, and anyone with a strong interest in healthcare innovation and medical technology.
“The Lecture Series and Micro-Certificate Program represent a core pillar of Medventions’ mission to build Canada’s medtech talent pipeline,” said Dr. Nasef. “By offering structured, accessible, regular, expert-led education that spans the full lifecycle of medical device development, from clinical needs identification to regulatory strategy and commercialization, the programs fill a critical gap in Canada’s innovation ecosystem. Unlike traditional classroom-based programs, the Micro-Certificate Program immerses participants in real-world healthcare challenges, pairing them with clinical mentors and innovation leaders who guide them through the process of identifying needs, developing solutions, and translating ideas into meaningful healthcare innovations.”
The Medventions Lecture Series
The Medventions Lecture Series is a weekly program featuring talks from leading clinicians, engineers, entrepreneurs, regulators, and investors working at the forefront of medical technology. Topics will include:
- – Identifying unmet clinical needs and translating them into design requirements
- – Medical device prototyping, testing, and iteration
- – Regulatory pathways in Canada (Health Canada) and internationally (FDA, CE marking)
- – Intellectual property strategy for medtech innovators
- – Securing funding: grants, venture capital, and strategic partnerships
- – Scaling and commercializing health technologies in Canada and globally
The Lecture Series is open to the public. Registration is required. Sessions will be offered in a hybrid format and will be recorded and uploaded to the Sunnybrook YouTube channel for on-demand access. Note: Those enrolled in the micro-certificate program must attend in-person.
The Medventions Micro-Certificate Program
The Micro-Certificate Program offers a structured, 14-week curriculum for participants seeking a deeper, credential-bearing educational experience. In addition to completing the Lecture Series, participants will engage in interactive workshops and work in teams on real-world clinical challenges identified by healthcare professionals. Each team will be paired with clinical mentors from Sunnybrook who will guide participants through the needs identification, problem-solving, and solution development process. Drawing on lessons from the lecture series and mentorship from experts, participants will develop and pitch innovative medical technology solutions during the program’s final showcase event.
Upon completion, participants will receive a Micro-Certificate in Medical Technology Innovation and Entrepreneurship, recognizing their foundational knowledge across the medtech development lifecycle.
Registration and Enrollment
Registration for both the Lecture Series and the Certificate Program opens at https://MLS26.eventbrite.ca. Enrollment for the Certificate Program is limited to 20 participants per cohort.
